Apple Day in Brampton
Here's a word from Lynn Wallace, Group Commissioner 4th Brampton about their experience:
Akela and one of our Scouts cut some tree branches six inches long and bored out the middle with a one-and-a-half inch drill bit. They cut a slot in the top for coins and fitted the bottom opening with a round plug that was held in place with 2 screws. The Cubs then helped by varnishing the containers to seal them and give them a nicer look. The Beavers added a finishing touch with a few themed decorations as you can see in the pictures.
We had many compliments on the collection containers from people we met and even sold a couple at the end of the day!"

This year 4th Brampton decided to have their Apple day event at the Brampton Farmers market on Main street. Their main booth was within site of their meeting place, St. Paul's Church. The weather was perfect, lots of people were in attendance. Nearly all the youth showed up for at least one shift. Several enjoyed their time thanking their local community so much that they chose to stay longer. It was great to see such a wonderful and visible presence of Scouting in the local community.
"In the past for Apple Day, the apple day committee handed out peanut butter jars for collecting the donations. This year we did not have the peanut butter jars, so one of our leaders came up with some beautiful and very Scouting styled collection containers made from firewood.

1st Acton celebrated 100 years of Scouting on the long weekend of February 2011 starting with a celebration of parade from the Scout Hall down the Acton Main Street to Trinity United Church where we worshipped with the Guides as they celebrate 100 years. After worship, the parade continued to the Town Hall where there was celebration, awards, pictures, displays and, of course, food & cake! It was a great celebration celebrating 100 year strong for 1st Acton. Congratulations 1st Acton and to the organizing committee that put on a wonderful event!
